GIF to Sprite Sheet

Extracts GIF frames in their original order and arranges them on one PNG sprite sheet, with optional JSON positions and delays. Parsing and drawing stay in this browser. Long animations can exceed browser memory, and partial frames are composited onto the GIF canvas before export.

Accepted formats:
GIFPNG

Frames stay in their original order. A transparent background keeps GIF transparency in the PNG. Partial frames are drawn onto the full GIF canvas first.

What does GIF to Sprite Sheet do?

GIF to Sprite Sheet reads an animated GIF with the built-in parser and draws the frames, in their original order, onto one PNG. Choose columns, spacing, scale, a frame range and a transparent or solid background. Rows are calculated from the selection. Optional JSON lists each frame index, position, size and delay.

How to use GIF to Sprite Sheet

  1. 1Upload a GIF.
  2. 2Set columns, spacing, scale and the first and last frame.
  3. 3Keep a transparent background or choose a color.
  4. 4Build the sheet, then download the PNG and the JSON.

Supported inputs and outputs

Inputs

Local animated GIF

Outputs

PNG sprite sheet, JSON frame positions and delays

Practical uses

  • Packing an animation for a canvas or CSS sprite
  • Exporting frame positions and delays
  • Selecting a range of frames without reordering them

Browser and media limitations

  • Frame order is not changed.
  • A stored delay of 0 is treated as 100 ms, matching the GIF parser.
  • Partial frames are composited onto the GIF canvas before they are packed.
  • Long animations can exceed browser memory. GIFs over 30 MB are refused.
  • Transparency is kept in the PNG only when no background color is applied.

How local processing works

Your file is processed in this browser tab and is not uploaded to a media server. This tool does not download a video engine. Page navigation and analytics still use network requests. Download the result before closing the tab.
