What does Subtitle Fixer do?
Subtitle Fixer reads the structure of an SRT or WebVTT file before it keeps any cue. A timestamp has to use hours, two-digit minutes and seconds, and three millisecond digits, with a comma in SRT or a dot in VTT. A time that cannot be read is reported and left out. A new time is not invented for it. A cue that ends before it starts is not swapped. Zero-duration cues, overlaps, duplicate timestamps with different text, very long text and lines over 42 characters stay in the report as warnings. Safe repairs renumber cues, sort them by start time, delete empty cues, delete an exact duplicate, normalize a readable timestamp into the usual syntax, add a WebVTT header and normalize line endings. A block with two timing lines is split. Caption wording is not rewritten. This page does not load a video engine.
How to use Subtitle Fixer
- 1Upload an SRT or VTT file, or paste the cues.
- 2Read the issue list. Errors and warnings stay attached to a cue number when there is one.
- 3Choose Repair safe issues only after you have read the warnings.
- 4Download the corrected SRT or VTT. Ambiguous times are not rewritten.
Supported inputs and outputs
Inputs
An SRT or VTT upload, Subtitle text pasted into the page
Outputs
An issue list with severity and cue number, A corrected SRT or VTT download
Practical uses
- Renumbering an SRT after cues were deleted
- Adding a missing WebVTT header
- Seeing overlaps before a file is imported into an editor
Browser and media limitations
- Malformed timestamps are omitted. The tool does not guess a replacement time.
- A cue that ends before it starts is not swapped.
- Overlaps and long lines are warnings. The wording and those times stay.
- This page does not burn captions into video and it does not load a video engine.
How local processing works
Your media is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded to Tubelexity for processing. This page does not load a video engine. Page navigation and analytics still use network requests.
Timestamp syntax, overlaps and numbering
A readable SRT time looks like 00:01:02,345. VTT uses a dot before the milliseconds and starts with a WEBVTT header. Numbers, blank lines and the order of cues are structure. They can be repaired without deciding what the caption should say.
An overlap is two cues that occupy the same moment. Fixing it would mean choosing a new start or end. That choice is left to you. The same is true when a cue ends before it starts.
Frequently asked questions
Which problems are fixed automatically?
Renumbering, sorting, empty cues, exact duplicates, readable timestamp syntax, the WebVTT header and line endings. Timing conflicts are only warned.
Will an overlap be given a new end time?
No. Overlapping cues are listed and kept. The tool does not invent a new time.
What does a malformed timestamp look like?
Minutes and seconds need two digits, and milliseconds need three. A time that does not match that pattern is reported and left out.
Is the subtitle file uploaded?
No. The text stays in this browser tab. This page does not load a video engine.
