What does Video Canvas Expander do?
Video Canvas Expander puts a local video on a larger frame. Use it to turn a square clip into a vertical layout, or to pad a horizontal clip with a background. Contain keeps the whole picture and adds padding. Cover fills the frame and crops the source. A solid color or a blurred copy of the video can fill the empty area when contain is selected. Audio is preserved.

- 2Choose 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:5 or custom dimensions.

Supported inputs and outputs
Inputs
Local video
Outputs
MP4 on the selected canvas, with audio when the source has it
Practical uses
- Turning a square clip into a vertical frame
- Padding a horizontal video for a social layout
- Placing a clip on a colored or blurred canvas
Browser and media limitations
- Preset output uses the source long edge and caps that edge at 1920 pixels.
- Cover crops the source. Contain does not stretch it.
- A blurred or solid background does not invent missing picture detail.
- The picture is re-encoded. The media engine downloads on first export.
How local processing works
Your media is processed in this browser tab, not uploaded to a processing server. The media engine downloads on first export. Page navigation and analytics still use network requests. Download the result before closing the tab.
Frequently asked questions
Does contain stretch the video?
No. Contain scales the picture so the whole frame fits, then pads the remaining space.
What does cover do?
Cover fills the canvas and crops whatever does not fit. The background is hidden.
Can the background be a blur of the video?
Yes, in contain mode. The blur is a filtered copy of the same video, not a generated scene.
Is the audio kept?
Yes. The first audio track is mapped into the MP4 when the file has one.
