What does GIF Speed Changer do?
GIF Speed Changer adjusts how long each existing frame is displayed. Choose a preset or enter a safe multiplier from 0.25x to 4x. The tool reports the generated duration, not just a theoretical estimate. It does not interpolate frames or improve motion detail.
How to use GIF Speed Changer
- 1Upload a local GIF and check its original cycle duration.
- 2Choose a speed multiplier from 0.25x to 4x.
- 3Apply speed and inspect the actual output duration and animation.
- 4Download the edited GIF; its original pixels and palette remain encoded as supplied.
Supported inputs and outputs
Inputs
GIF animation
Outputs
GIF with modified frame delays
Practical uses
- Slowing a demonstration loop
- Speeding a reaction GIF
- Adjusting animation pacing
Browser and media limitations
- GIF delays have hundredth-second precision, so duration is approximate.
- Some players lengthen short delays and may appear slower than the encoded timing.
- Missing or zero frame delays use a 0.1-second inspection fallback.
- A static one-frame GIF will not gain animation.
How local processing works
Your media is processed in this browser tab, not uploaded to a processing server. Page navigation, analytics and downloads of application/runtime code still use network requests. Download the result before closing the tab.
Frequently asked questions
Does changing GIF speed re-encode image pixels?
No. This tool updates delay blocks and keeps the existing compressed frame data and palette.
Does 2x mean half the duration?
Approximately. Frame delays are divided by two, then rounded to the GIF format's timing precision.
Why does a fast GIF look slower in another app?
GIF players may clamp very short frame delays. Encoded timing and displayed playback are not identical in every viewer.
Does this create smoother motion?
No. The same source frames are shown for different durations; no intermediate motion frames are generated.
