Rotate GIF

Rotate or flip every composited frame of a local animated GIF, then download a new GIF. Turns of 90, 180 and 270 degrees remap pixels exactly, and a 90 degree turn swaps width and height. A custom angle uses resampling and can add empty corners unless you expand the canvas. Frame order and delays stay, aside from GIF's hundredth-of-a-second timing. The palette is re-encoded.

What does Rotate GIF do?

Rotate GIF turns or mirrors every composited frame of a local GIF. Clockwise 90°, counterclockwise 90°, and 180° remap pixels exactly. A 90° turn swaps width and height. Horizontal and vertical flips change every frame. A custom angle resamples the picture. Expand the canvas to keep the corners, or leave it off to crop them. New corners stay transparent unless you fill them with a color. Frame order and the source loop stay. Delays stay too, aside from GIF's hundredth-of-a-second storage.

How to use Rotate GIF

  1. 1Upload a GIF and review its dimensions, frame count and duration.
  2. 2Choose 90° clockwise, 90° counterclockwise, 180°, a flip, or a custom angle.
  3. 3For a custom angle, decide whether to expand the canvas and how to fill new corners.
  4. 4Export the GIF, compare the preview and file size, then download. Cancel stops the encode.

Inputs

Animated GIF, Static GIF

Outputs

Rotated or flipped GIF

Practical uses

  • Turning a sideways animation upright
  • Mirroring a GIF without dropping frames
  • Expanding the canvas so a custom angle is not cropped

Browser and media limitations

  • Quarter turns are exact pixel remaps. Other angles resample and can soften edges.
  • Empty corners appear when a custom angle does not fill the rectangle. Expand canvas keeps them.
  • The palette is rebuilt, so colors can shift. This is not a lossless rotate.
  • Repeated custom-angle exports resample again. Reset and export once from the original.
  • Limits are 30 MB, 300 frames, 2048 pixels on a side, and 24 million total pixels.

How local processing works

Your media is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded to Tubelexity for processing. This page does not load a video engine. Page navigation and analytics still use network requests.

What a 90 degree turn does to a sample GIF

This example uses a generated sample, not a user file. The sample GIF is 96 by 64 pixels, with 3 frames and delays of 100, 200 and 300 milliseconds. A 90 degree clockwise turn makes every frame 64 by 96. A 180 degree turn stays 96 by 64. A horizontal or vertical flip moves pixels on every frame and keeps the original dimensions.

A custom angle is different. The rectangle no longer lines up with the canvas, so the corners are empty unless you expand it. Those corners use the background you choose. Quarter turns do not resample. A second custom-angle export would resample the already resampled pixels, so reset to the original first.

Frequently asked questions

How do you rotate an animated GIF?

Upload the GIF, choose a quarter turn or a custom angle, and export. The transform runs on every composited frame, not only the first.

Can GIFs be flipped without losing animation?

Yes. Horizontal and vertical flips are applied to every frame. Frame order and delays stay. A 90° turn swaps width and height. 180° keeps them.

Why can custom-angle rotation introduce empty corners?

A turn that is not a multiple of 90 degrees does not land on the same rectangle. Expand canvas keeps those corners. Otherwise they are cropped. Fill them with a color, or leave them transparent.

Does rotation change the playback speed?

No. Delays are copied. GIF still stores them in hundredths of a second, and the page says when a delay had to round.
